A family with both paws and feet

We left a comfortable city house to move to the countryside

I am Rossella, with my husband Maurizio we live in the rural area of Caiazzo. We moved from Caserta, to realize this project and to enjoy a better quality of life. We chose this place for its potential, even if we had no idea, at the beginning, of how much work would actually be needed to realize it. We both take care of the management of the house and the land, but I am the contact for the B&B and the Le Piracante project. A “Rural Hub” that integrates activities, ideas, spaces with the common goal of enhancing the territorial context in which we are, allowing us to live with a good quality of life, in a context that still allows it.

My story

I have a previous career in the field of Human Resources Development, I was involved in the design and implementation of interventions in the field of Professional Orientation and Training, Career Counseling and other similar fields. English: I lived in Rome during my university years and also afterwards, building a curriculum that gave me the opportunity to work by supporting a professional approach that gave me good satisfaction. Later I worked for various public and private organizations and institutions, in the field of Organizational Development and Training, in different areas of Campania. I loved my job but let’s say that I was not always reciprocated. Contingent factors such as a very low level of attention to the contents and professional profile of those who work in sectors such as Orientation, Training and in general the development of Human Resources, placed me in a condition of “professional narrowness”. Political relations, personal contacts and economic interests were often more relevant than the quality of the contents, the obtaining of tangible positive results and the value both in terms of process and result. Coming from an environment where I had worked first of all on the development of my skills, perhaps protected from the outside because all those phenomena and processes of communication with the outside were mediated by the University, it did not adequately prepare me to face all the necessary challenges. Even though today I run a completely different business, I use my skills in different and sometimes similar fields and I was able to bring my Project to life.

The present
With my husband, who often works remotely, we live here together with our 4-legged friends, three dogs and three cats, surrounded by a lovely neighborhood with whom we have excellent relationships. We live by observing the weather and the seasons, growing part of our own food and enjoying the magnificence of nature as much as possible. We have worked very hard to realize our project and every day we dedicate ourselves to managing the thousand commitments that are needed, but we are grateful to live in such a beautiful and healthy place. But mine is a dynamic project, which develops and enriches itself over time. A “Rural Hub” intended as a conceptual space for experimentation and innovation that dialogues with the territory and feeds on the human and immaterial resources available. There are interweavings of experiences and ideas that range between different fields, towards a future that is built one step at a time.

We want this place to be a place where you can enjoy the beauty of nature, where friends and guests return with joy.

Our life choice and baseline scenario

The Project

Le Piracante is a small “Rural Hub”, a rural property on the Caiatine Hills, which integrates a business activity of tourist hospitality through the B&B, a small family-run agricultural business, a creative laboratory and a conceptual space as an ecosystem of learning and innovation in a rural context. It feeds on experiences, observations and concrete elements, dedicated to the development and enhancement of skills, autonomy and well-being for growth and adaptation, individual and collective, where local communities constitute the human and cultural fabric to build a relationship of exchange and sharing of good practices. The rural context serves as a backdrop, local communities are the human and immaterial environment with which to dialogue and build networks of exchange and collaboration for local development and the offer of innovative services.

In rural areas it is possible to spread greater awareness of the development opportunities offered by a sustainable and integrated use of local resources, because people can live the experience and acquire greater awareness of the value of these resources. It is possible and necessary to recover resources that risk disappearing, such as traditional local agri-food production, promote the rural landscape, rural buildings, monuments, intangible and human heritage.

Faced with the increase in demand recorded in recent years and the growing expectations of travellers, increasingly interested in the territory as a whole, I have worked to build an integrated and quality offer capable of making the rural area in which we are located more attractive and competitive. I am convinced that the promotion of resources, including cultural ones, allows an improvement in the level of economic and tourist development of the territory and increases the interest of the local community in the preservation of its heritage. In addition, I work to develop local networks aimed at promoting the territory, through communication between the various actors involved, projects and above all the sharing of common objectives and strategies.

Where we are

A main farmhouse with two outbuildings (ex former stables and barn), about a hectare of land with a beautiful olive grove and views of the hills are our bucolic scenery.

Our geographical position is optimal. The climate is dry and very pleasant, even in winter thanks to the hilly position protected from cold and wet currents of Caserta. We are in the middle of the beautiful “Valle del Medio Volturno”, crossed by the homonymous river and surrounded by majestic mountains. The massif of the Matese to the north and north-east, Trebulani mountains to the west, Monte Taburno to the east and south-east. Going to south-west you arrive in Caserta in 15 minutes and by continuing you arrive in Naples, on the coast.

In this panorama, I am pleased to welcome my guests to live an authentic experience in a rural setting that still preserves beauty and health. An experience that ranges from the conformable welcome of Bed & Breakfast, with the strong presence of typical local products, E-Bike rental to explore the territory and craft workshop, to learn a thousand techniques and creative disciplines but also to buy unique and original products.

The beginning

It was March 2016…

This was the property when we visited it before purchasing it. It was a disused farmhouse that had been abandoned for some time. Crumbling walls, concrete instead of lawn, iron poles and nets everywhere. Some plants have not been found after the purchase. As well as the coats of arms on the facade.

this is how our “view” of the hills was ….

We immediately started cleaning, fixing and eliminating what was wrong.

Spring / Summer 2016 Initially we didn’t see any views from the courtyard

The upper floor was in good condition, although the entire building lacked heating and hot water. The ground floor, our current guest house, was in a dilapidated state.

When the next spring blossomed, we still had all the work in the world to do, but we started to really enjoy what we had.

It was 2017In the spring of 2018 we conquered our splendid panorama!

Since the first summer spent here we have never stopped spending time enjoying what we had achieved with so much effort and thinking about the path still to be taken. During the day the view over the fields, at night the lights of the stars. We live following a rhythm that always takes into account the seasons, the weather and the daily hours of light.

We have tasks typical of modern life but we always keep in mind when it is time to prune the vineyard, harvest the olives or cut the grass. Feeding plants, stacking wood and all the other work needed to manage a house in the country.

2020 was the year of important milestones

We are in the summer of 2022 and new goals have been reached.

We are working on the renovation of the former barn for poultry, our gardens are increasingly blooming and we continue to plant new trees on our land.

An important goal achieved is the creation of a second room for our B&B, the Tarot Room!
